Until now, the choice was between using an Ea(n/mn)os (electric trolley) without a cover with a loose tarpaulin, which had to be tied down by hand in a time-consuming and dangerous climbing operation and had to be properly secured each time, or using Ta(m)ns trolleys with a fixed tarpaulin or bulky hinged cover and a greatly reduced payload.

Thanks to the new innovation from Edscha TS with the patent-pending OpenBox Railway cover, which weighs only approx. 300 kg (over a length of 10 m), any electric trolley can now be opened safely and conveniently from the side from below in a short time. Thanks to the bolted and floating suspension of the rails, retrofitting is easy and can withstand deformations of up to approx. 60 mm.

The canopy was designed in accordance with the criteria for combined transport as per EN 283 / UIC 592
and has passed the static tests for tunnel traffic. The TÜV confirms that the classification as an E-carriage is maintained even with a retrofitted soft top.
