Deutsche Bundesbahn’s pilot project to develop an intermodal swap body in the CurtainSider design in accordance with EN 283 is currently under development. The aim of this project is to create a CurtainSider swap body that meets the specific requirements and standards for combined rail and road transport in order to ensure efficient and flexible use.

The CurtainSider itself is a further development of the closed body. As with traditional dropside vehicles, it is now possible to load forklift trucks from the side, which is much more effective for loading. Bulky goods can be loaded very quickly thanks to the fast, almost complete opening of the side wall. The independent roof protects the cargo area from rain. From 1990, the development of self-supporting sliding roofs also made crane loading possible with this type of body.
